Scientific paper to be published on the baboon-eating painted wolves of Mana Pools
Painted Dog Conservation has achieved another world first.
PDC’s scientific advisor, Dr. Esther van der Meer, in collaboration with the BBC, has written a scientific paper about preferential predation on baboons by painted wolves in Mana Pools. The paper has been accepted for publication in the scientific peer-reviewed journal Behaviour.
PWF Trustee, Nicholas Dyer, originally broke this story in National Geographic, featuring his stunning pictures of this unusual and never-before-seen behaviour.
One of Nick’s pictures, “Ahead of the Game” was highly commended in this year’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.
These enterprising packs of painted wolves are featured in BBC’s Dynasties, and also in Nick and Peter’s book Painted Wolves: A Wild Dog’s Life.
