Intensive monitoring is key to effective painted dog conservation in Kenya’s Tsavo Conservation Area 42,000 km² landscape.
The Painted Dog Fund (PDF) proudly supported Tsavo Trust in hiring their new dedicated painted dog ecologist, Desmond Musyoka.
In March 2026, CEO of the Painted Wolf Foundation (PWF) Nick Dyer, also handed over the keys to Desmond to a specially modified Landcruiser to help him monitor the dogs.
Nick and Desmond spent time driving around Tsavo East discussing the best way to track and monitor the dogs in Tsavo’s harsh and unforgiving landscape.
PWF and PDF are committed to support Tsavo Trust and their WRTI partnership to build a long-term painted dog conservation programme across this amazing wilderness.
PWF is looking forward to inviting Tsavo Trust and WRTI researchers to PWF’s Conservation Leadership Programme in Zambia and Zimbabwe later this year.
