Painted Dog Fund supports new initiative in North Luangwa

Zambian Carnivore Programme (ZCP) has an incredible track record in conserving painted wolves in Zambia. Especially in South Luangwa, Liuwa Plains and Kafue.

ZCP is considered one of the leading organisations in painted wolf conservation in Africa and they played a significant role in helping PWF develop an effective conservation programme with Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ).

ZCP is now expanding their painted wolf conservation operations into North Luangwa National Park and the surrounding Game Management Areas, working in partnership with the Frankfurt Zoological Society. This expansion of their work has been enabled through funding from the Painted Dog Fund.

The painted wolves in the area are vulnerable to snaring and the initial focus of the project is to find and monitor the packs and determine the high-risk areas in the landscape.

With this knowledge ZCP will be better able to protect the packs against the threats they face across the full extent of the Luangwa Valley.
