The mission of the Ruaha Carnivore Project (RCP) is to achieve successful human-carnivore coexistence by empowering local communities, and to develop effective strategies for long-term carnivore conservation.
RCP works in the Ruaha landscape, the core of which is the Ruaha National Park, surrounded by wildlife management areas and village land. It is a priority ‘hotspot’ for African carnivore conservation, and RCP is the only dedicated carnivore conservation project in the area.
The RCP has five main objectives: i) collect baseline data on carnivore ecology, ii) disseminate information about Ruaha’s carnivores and their ecology, iii) investigate and mitigate human-carnivore conflict, iv) improve local knowledge of carnivores and conservation, and v) improve local capacity in carnivore research and conservation.
