Forging Ahead

22nd February 2023

The Trustees of the Painted Wolf Foundation have invited Nicholas Dyer to be the new CEO of the Painted Wolf Foundation (PWF) to take over the role from Diane Skinner who sadly passes away last year. Nick was a founding trustee of PWF and has acted as Chairman since the organisation was set up in 2018.

Raised in Kenya, Nick spent much of his life working in the City of London as a fund manager before embarking on an entrepreneurial career creating a successful marketing and communications business.

Returning to Africa in 2011, he refocused his life on something more worthwhile and emotionally rewarding – photography and conservation. He spent eight years travelling across east and southern Africa alone in his Landcruiser, visiting all the major national parks, engaging with conservationists and learning from communities that live with wildlife.

Nick is the co-author of the highly acclaimed coffee table book Painted Wolves: A Wild Dog’s Life, which he co-authored with Peter Blinston. Together they give an in-depth and personal insight into the lives of the packs and the daily challenges they face.

Over the last three years, Nick worked closely with his late wife, Diane Skinner, spending time in the field and analysing painted wolf conservation across Africa. Together, they co-authored our seminal report “Securing the Future of the Painted Wolf” which we produced in partnership with Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN). It provides a strategy for doubling their numbers in the next 30 years.

Nick will be responsible for taking this strategy forward, analysing and helping to develop robust projects. He will be looking for opportunities where our investment can make a transformational change to the future of the species.
