The mission of the Niassa Carnivore Project (NCP) is to conserve lions and their prey in Niassa Special Reserve by promoting coexistence and a shared respect for people, their culture, wildlife and the environment.
The NCP has three long-term goals:
- Monitor trends in carnivore populations and threats;
- Reduce threats to carnivores; and
- Build alternative livelihoods, and conduct outreach and education to local communities.
The project works in collaboration with the communities who live inside Niassa Reserve, the Mozambican Government and the Niassa Special Reserve management authority.
